"We are approaching the start of a new session and I am looking forward to welcoming players back, whether you have played with the band before or not.

As we lead up to our Winter concert my thoughts are that we will perform a programme of two distinct parts at the concert, one festive and one not so much so. The music will largely be up tempo with just a couple of steadier numbers to counterbalance. Our committee are considering a very exciting venue for the concert- more details on the opening night!

Among the works this year will be a lively (and challenging!) march by the Russian composer Shostakovich, the music from Polar Express, the music from Tim Burton's The Nightmare before Christmas, a revisit of the suite from the very popular Band of Brothers, and jazz, film and festive music from Spain, America, Ukraine and Austria too. Whether you have been playing an instrument for a few years or a few decades I'm sure that there will be something that will appeal to you.

Remember that Glasgow Community Concert Band doesn't audition for membership so please bring your instrument and a music stand along to our open rehearsals on the 6th or 13th August and join in what will be fun evening for all as we all learn what is largely a completely new repertoire!"
